HELLO CORNELIS, YOU HAVE RENCENTLY BEEN ONE MONTH IN FUERTEVENTURA FOR FIRST TIME. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ISLAND AS A KITESURF DESTINATION?
I have been in the wintertime to Fuerteventura for waveriding. The wind in the wintertime is not constant. So you have check out different places. But that’s the part I like. Every day is different and you need to get the feel of the island. And when there is no wind at all you can go surfing in any condition you want. The reef doesn’t make it easy to go in the water but ones your in you can get one of the best experiences.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE FUERTEVENTURA?
I wanted to go to a spot with nice waves. And to a place I did not visited before. I did not have a lot of information about Fuerteventura so we took the chance and hope for the best.

YOU CAME HERE FOR KITESURF IN WAVE AND SURFING, WHAT GEAR DO YOU RECOMMEND TO BRING (KITE SIZES, BOARDS, WETSUIT, ETC.)?
I had my 9 m2 and 7m2 with me, when there was wind most of the time I could get out. If you have a 11 you should bring it to. My board is a 5’9 but I have learn that I also need a bigger one. With a 3 mm you can go all the time without getting cold. I have bought a surfboard at Fuerteventura because when there is no wind you want to get in those waves. And your snorkel set off course;)

YOU HAVE BEEN MOST OF THE TIME IN THE NORTH OF THE ISLAND, WHAT KITEWAVE SPOTS DID YOU KITESURF? WICH ONE DO YOU RECOMMEND THE MOST?
I have kited at Majanicho, kitebeach, el Hierro, el Burro, to the right of rockypoint and one day we went to lobos but there were no wave that day, shame. It is hard to recommend one spot above the other because it depends of the conditions. I had some big wave in Majanicho but you need to take care off the windsurfers. At el Hierro I had one of my best sessions but I heard that it can be very big there. I really want to go to lobos again because I heard from some guys it can be better than Hawaii.

AND WHAT SURF SPOTS DO YOU RECOMMEND?
First you have to know that I am beginner in surfing. So I was looking for some easy wave because I don’t want to die. Again Majanicho can be great. We also had some fun in Cotillo but it can be also really bad there. Rockypoint can be nice but sometimes a bit busy. My best session was a lefthander how I believed is called Punta Gorda (little further to the left of german’s right) but take care about the current. I also had a nice session at Bristol. I believe there are many other places that can be great when you drive along the dirt road.

YOU FLEW FROM HOLLAND, YOU RENTED AN APARTMENT FOR TWO AND A CAR FOR A MONTH. HOW MUCH MONEY DID YOU SPEND ON YOUR HOLIDAYS? DO YOU THINK IT IS A GOOD VALUE FOR IT?
We pay for the car 500 euro and the same amount for a month accommodation in an apartment. So I think that’s great value. The food is a little expensive but it is to be expected when you go to an island with only goats and rocks. The vibe of Fuerteventura is really good nice people nice waves so I really would like to come back next year.
